...MONKEYS

Zooming away night & day we are feeling lucky that we have that to hand. Wifi glitches aside just being able to continue at times when you might feel like you just want to give up is great brain training & those who take part in regular exercise have shown that their resilience to setbacks of any kind is much greater than those who are more sedentary. This then triggers the question of what is resilience & does it mean people who are are just mentally tougher than others?

Do they just see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil...block it all out & carry on?

Well it turns out that apparently resilience is what helps people recover from a setback. Where as mental toughness can help people avoid experiencing a setback in the first place. This may mean that all mentally tough individuals could be very resilient, but not all resilient individuals however are in fact mentally tough.

The idea of being mentally tough having the insight & capability of not seeing things as a setback in the first place will in fact help you become more resilient if things don't go as planned.

This very much reminds me of the story of the monkey who got his hand stuck in the jar. There are many variations of this story as there are possible meanings. The long & short of it is. The monkey saw something in a jar he liked, he tried to get it but his hand got stuck. He then had the choice of carrying on trying to remove it & possibly getting caught & not getting it or just letting go & removing his hand without it.

Being resilient he could of carried on trying & not given in, pushing & pulling. Sweating at the thought of being caught & the possibility of also not getting what he wanted. Or been mentally tough from the outset. Still seeing & wanting but realising the possible undesirable outcomes & having the mental toughness to resist & see different ways around it?

Sometimes you just need that inner warrior to bring out that mental toughness!
